Junior Division

The Junior Division (JD) helps students ages 7-12 built the strength and understanding necessary for long-term success as both a dancer and well-rounded individual. Through ballet classes with age-appropriate music, modern, and repertoire lessons, a strong technical foundation is established.

Junior Division classes run September through May for 33 weeks of classes. Dancers may join mid-year. Email our office for more information at office@portlandballet.org

Performance Opportunities

Performing and learning how to perform are a big part of ballet education!

All Junior Division dancers have the option to participate in Portland Ballet’s a Victorian Nutcracker, and students may also be selected to perform in other professional Portland Ballet productions. Additionally, the Junior, Senior, and Pre-Professional Divisions share the stage during the Building Ballets Series and the Year End Showcase.

JD students may also have various opportunities to take part in outreach and community events.

Interested in Joining the Junior Division?

  • Students coming from Portland School of Ballet's Young Dancer Division will receive level placement advice from their instructor at the end of the school year

  • New-to-PSB students who are 7 years old at the start of the school year can enroll in Junior Division 1. Register for JD1 HERE.

  • Students ages 7+ can email info@portlandballet.org to schedule a placement class. Placement classes may be a short, complimentary private lesson (~10 minutes), where a few simple exercises are given to determine which level would be most suitable and beneficial. Alternatively, we may invite you to a trial class for your child’s age level. Following the placement class, you will have the opportunity to speak with Portland School of Ballet staff, tour our facility, learn more about our School, and ask any questions you may have.

Junior Division 1

Meets 1 day a week for 1.75 hours per week total
Schedule: Wednesdays 4:45pm-6:30pm
Includes: Ballet Technique, Victorian Nutcracker rehearsals/Repertoire, Music & Movement
Tuition: $800; Ages 7+ (by Sept. 1)

Junior Division 2

Meets 2 days per week for 2.75 hours per week total
Schedule: Mondays 4:00pm-5:00pm; Fridays 4:00pm-5:45pm
Includes: Ballet Technique, Victorian Nutcracker rehearsals/Repertoire, Music & Movement
Tuition: $1,250; Ages 8+ (by Sept. 1)

Junior Division 3

Meets 2 days per week for 3.75 hours per week total
Schedule: Mondays 4:00pm-6:15pm; Wednesdays 4:00pm-5:30pm
Includes: Ballet Technique, Victorian Nutcracker rehearsals/Repertoire, Modern
Tuition: $1,700; Ages 9+ (by Sept. 1)

Junior Division 4

Meets 3 days per week for 5.5 hours per week total
Schedule: Mondays 5:00pm-7:30pm; Wednesdays 5:30pm-7:00pm; Saturdays 11:00am-12:30pm
Includes: Ballet Technique, Victorian Nutcracker rehearsals/Repertoire, Modern
Tuition: $2,500; Ages 10+ (by Sept. 1)
