Ballet Essentials - Beginner Group Class

Ballet Essentials is a 5-week group class for beginner ballet students - no experience required. This class is intended for Teen and Adult beginner students to learn ballet basics in order to move into our drop-in classes (Open Classes) or Portland School of Ballet's Senior Division (PSB). Students may also re-enroll for the next session of Ballet Essentials. Tuition: $75
Subject to polices in the PSB Handbook.
Attire: Please plan to wear clothes that are comfortable and do not restrict movement (ie: leggings, t-shirt or tank top, loose-fitting shorts). Canvas ballet shoes are highly recommended. Socks are acceptable in place of ballet shoes but may be more slippery

Open Classes
Portland School of Ballet is proud to offer instruction to adults and teenagers who wish to learn ballet and improve their technique, as well as those who look to dance for fun and fitness. Please note: we are located in Portland, Maine.

Class Card Packages: Class cards are available for 5 or 10 classes and offer a discounted rate per class. Class cards must be used within 1 year of purchase and are non-refundable.
Registration is required! Please sign up early if you are planning to attend a class. In the event that there are less than 3 students signed up for class, class will be canceled 3 hours prior to the scheduled start time. In the event of a cancellation, Anyone who is signed up will be notified by email, so please check your email prior to leaving for class. If a class is not available for signup, it is full or has been canceled.
Beginners are also encouraged to try our Ballet Essentials class. Advanced/Professional-level dancers, please contact office@portlandballet.org.
Community Ballet (Ages 7-12) - Free Group Class!
Community Ballet is a free group class for children ages 7-12. Portland Ballet and Portland Youth Dance have partnered to provide free beginner-level ballet classes to children in need in the Greater Portland area. Classes incorporate technique, stretching, musicality, and choreography.
Time: 3:30pm-4:00pm
Fall: September 2 - November 15
Winter: November 17 - March 7

Parents and Caregivers have fun and engage with their children (ages 1-3) and each other through dance, rhythms and music. Designed to inspire movement through observation, dance and creative exploration, these classes focus on engaging children to find expression through movement.
Parents and Caregivers are expected to attend and participate with their children in this class. (1 adult per child.) *Children must be 1 year old by the first day of class and should be comfortable walking independently*

Young Men’s Ballet (Ages 10+)

Young Men’s Class will be taught by Pre-Professional Division Director Sabir Yapparov, and will focus on building strength and agility as well as a fostering a sense of camaraderie. Emphasis will be placed on building coordination for jumps and turns and strengthening the core and upper body in preparation for partnering. This class is intended for students in Portland School of Ballet’s Pre-Professional Division, Senior Division, or Junior Division Level 4 or their equivalents ages 10+.
Uniform: White short sleeve dance t-shirt, Black dance/compression full length tights, white socks, white ballet shoes

This class is designed for seniors with limited mobility and structured for those who would take class from a seated position or with mobility aids such as canes or walkers. More than just an exercise class, our senior dancers will experience the benefits of stretching and strengthening in a studio designed for dance and the impact of gentle movement supported by music to maximize the brain body connection and find more ways to connect with and express themselves. Senior Stretch classes are 45-minutes in length.
