Portland Ballet’s Summer Intensive is dedicated to intermediate, advanced, and pre-professional dancers (ages 12-18) who are seeking to cultivate their individual potential. Through an intensive ballet curriculum, students will gain strength and skill, while classes such as modern, contemporary, strength training, and repertory support the versatility needed in today's dance world.
2- or 3-week options are available, with classes running Monday through Friday, from 9:00am-4:00pm. Come ready to work!

Dmitri Roudnev trained for eight years at the renowned Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Moscow, Russia. He was a soloist with the Bolshoi Ballet under the direction of the great U.N. Grigorovich, and proceeded to become the Director of the Ballet Intensive from Moscow (USA) at Michigan State University and Northern Illinois University.
Mr. Roudnev is the producer of 15 volumes of renowned ballet class CD and DVDs. He acted as the off-ice ballet coach of 2006 Olympic gold medalist figure skating couple Maxim Marinin and Tatiana Totmianina and is the former Artistic Director of the Roudnev Ballet of Chicago and the Roudnev Youth Ballet.
Sara Knight is a graduate of the Royal Ballet School (England) and an Associate of London England’s Royal Academy of Dance. She graduated from the Royal Ballet School Teachers Training Course before traveling to Russia and becoming the first British graduate of the Vaganova (Kirov) Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg. As a student, Sara received the Royal Ballet School’s Special Award for Excellence awarded personally by Dame Ninette de Valois, founder of the Royal Ballet.
Upon graduation in Russia, Sara was invited to join the Eifman Ballet Theatre, and remained there to become a soloist with Leningrad State Ballet Theatre and The Russian Ballet of St. Petersburg. In Europe, she danced with Northern Ballet and was Principal Dancer with European Ballet before moving to the USA to dance and teach with Boston Ballet, Configuration Dance, and the Rebecca Rice Dance Company.
In September 2010, Sara founded SLK Ballet; Graduates of the school are now dancing in companies around the world including San Francisco Ballet, Ballet Sibiu, Ballet Theatre UK, Ballet Idaho, Eugene Ballet, and Festival Ballet Rhode Island, to name a few. Sara is an international guest teacher for many large schools, festivals, and companies.
Sabir Yapparov received his academic and ballet training at the Perm Ballet Academy in Russia and studied with some of the finest teachers. He was a soloist with the Sverdlovsk Academic Theatre of Opera & Ballet and with the Bolshoi Theater in Uzbekistan and was a principal with the Odessa Academic Theater of the Opera and Ballet in the Ukraine. He danced leading roles in classical, neo-classical, and contemporary ballets, and was invited as a guest principal throughout the former Soviet Union, Italy, Hungary, Portugal, Finland, India, Spain, and Canada.
Mr. Yapparov worked as a ballet master with the Sarasota Ballet for eleven years, serving one year as Associate Artistic Director. He was a Visiting Professor at the University of South Florida School of Theatre and Dance, and was part of the guest faculty at North Carolina School of the Arts. Mr. Yapparov recently was the Assistant to the Artistic Director at the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, D.C., and served as Principal at the School of Cincinnati Ballet, before returning to Portland Ballet to direct the CORPS-program.
