Summer Intensive

July 9th — July 27th

Daily ballet technique class, as well as pointe/pre-pointe, repertoire, conditioning, modern and contemporary classes, and informative lectures. At the end of the intensive, there will be a performance for friends and family at the Portland Ballet Studio Theater!

Students can choose to do two weeks of the intensive, or the full 3-week program.

FACULTY

 Kaitlyn Hayes began her dance training on Cape Cod, MA, with Virginia Zango. In 2003, she attended Boston Ballet, where she performed in their annual production of The Nutcracker. After attending three years of high school at what is now the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, she proceeded to attend and graduate Magna Cum Laude from SUNY Purchase College with a BFA in dance and a concentration in choreography. She had the pleasure of working with many choreographers while attending both schools, including Camille A. Brown, Brenda Daniels, and Bradley Shelver, as well as performing works by Merce Cunnigham. Upon graduation, she performed all over Massachusetts with many choreographers including Tony Williams, Thomas Vacanti, Maryanne Kodzis, David Sun and Jackie Underwood. Kaitlyn has danced almost all soloist roles in The Victorian Nutcracker, and has been featured in Three Tales by Poe, Roberto Forleo's Alice with the Portland Symphony Orchestra, and Push Me Pull You.

    Milena Hartog was born in New York City, but moved to the Netherlands at age five. In Amsterdam, she studied at the Dutch National Ballet Academy and had the opportunity to perform works by Van Manen, Petipa, Balanchine, Van Schayk, and Naharin, among others. In addition, she danced in various productions with the affiliated HET National Ballet. The past few years, Milena has danced with Princeton Youth Ballet in Princeton, NJ, and State Street Ballet in Santa Barbara, CA. She performed the lead role of the Sugar Plum Fairy in Lake Erie Ballet's Nutcracker, and has performed in, and choreographed numerous contemporary works. Currently, Milena is based in Portland, Maine, where she works with Portland Ballet.

Her repertoire includes lead roles in Don Quixote, the Nutcracker, Coppelia, and Balanchine's Concerto Barocco. She has guested in Tennessee and Georgia and danced in Jean Grand-Maitre's Uroboros, Oskar Antunez's Gatsby, and Antunez's Alice in Wonderland. Now a dancer at Portland Ballet, she has added The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, By Request, The Victorian Nutcracker, Nell Shipman’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and the title role in Giselle to her credits.

 Eliana Trenam has a Bachelor of Arts with honors in Dance from the University of Iowa. She has trained with the American Repertory Ballet, and she was a guest dancer with Baltimore Ballet in 2012. Eliana’s Portland Ballet credits include Jack the Ripper, The Victorian Nutcracker, Boy Meets Girl,  Bolero to Bayadere, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, and as Berenice in Three Tales by Poe. Most recently, Eliana danced the title role in Portland Ballet's Firebird.

 Andrea Michaud Tracy held the title of Ballet and Contemporary Director at Kennebec Dance Centre for the past 20 years. Currently, she specializes in private coaching and choreographing for dancers, teams, and companies all around the country. Andrea is presently a head judge for Edge National Talent Competition, and also judges nationally for StarQuest International Dance Competition, Cutting Edge Dance Competition, and for Courtney Ortiz's judging agency, Impact Dance Adjudicators. She also is on faculty at Stage Presence for Dancers, Portland School of Ballet, and Bradley's School of Dance. Ms. Tracy is a former principal dancer of both Portland Ballet and Bossov Ballet Theatre, where she was also on staff as the jazz/contemporary director and taught ballet. While still a student at BBT, she studied under the close eye of former Kirov Ballet director and dancer, Andrei Bossov, for over 10 years as one of his first American students. Later, she became his partner in many of his world premiere ballets. Andrea continued her training at the School of American Ballet in NYC, and went to Japan when she was 1 of only 7 dancers chosen to represent the USA at the 2nd International Ballet Competition in Nagoya. Andrea has performed with the ABT Studio Company, and was offered a full dance scholarship to the University of Arizona. Ms. Tracy has become an award-winning choreographer, receiving prestigious and high-scoring awards for her staging, concepts, and choreography at the industry's highest levels of competition. Her students have received national recognition and scholarships to various well-respected summer intensives and dance colleges.
