Portland Ballet Company started in 1985 as a performance arm for the school, and was known as Portland Ballet Repertory Company. Over time this performing group became a fully professional company, elevating the level of artistry presented to the community. Today, the professional Portland Ballet Company is known for its highly regarded contemporary choreography as well as acclaimed performances of the classics. Under the direction of Artistic Director and Founder Eugenia O'Brien and Associate Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer Nell Shipman, PBC continues to impress audiences with its versatility, athleticism, and artistry.

PBC is well known for its ability to collaborate successfully with other distinguished arts organizations, such as the Choral Art Society, the Portland Symphony Orchestra, the Kotzschmar Organ, PORTopera, Bowdoin College, Best of Broadway, and University of Southern Maine.

Portland Ballet Company's repertory features a wide array of styles, old classics like Giselle and The Victorian Nutcracker; new classics like The Legend of Sleepy Hollow; and contemporary choreography such as Bolero, Mozart Requiem, and Spoke of the Wheel.
