Start off our 2017-2018 season by joining us for one of classical ballet's most tragic tales of life, love, death, and forgiveness. As one of the most celebrate classical ballet works, Giselle blends exquisite choreography, haunting musical compositions, and a timeless story of love and loss. Portland Ballet is excited to begin its season with this masterpiece and excited to be back at the Westbrook Performing Arts Center. The Victorian Nutcracker

A Portland tradition, The Victorian Nutcracker tells the timeless holiday classic set in Victorian era Portland with sets and costumes inspired by the Victoria Mansion. Featuring the professional dancers of Portland Ballet alongside a cast of talented youth from across the area, The Victorian Nutcracker brings the story to life for audiences young and old. With music by the Portland Ballet Orchestra, conducted by University of Southern Maine’s Robert Lehmann, Portland Ballet will once again bring this local favorite to the Portland public. The Victorian Nutcracker will be performed at both Merrill Auditorium and Westbrook Performing Arts Center.

By bringing in exciting new choreographers and showcasing their work on our professional company, Portland Ballet continues to enrich our community through dance. Gallery will be presented in the intimate setting of the Portland Ballet Studio Theater. Spend an evening with us and help to support bringing new voices to the Maine dance scene.

Portland Ballet is thrilled to close our 2017-2018 season with the premiere of Nell Shipman's Firebird.  Based on the classic Russian folktale, the Firebird is a powerful ballet set to the music of Stravinsky that will delight ballet audiences of all ages.  Full of dynamic performance, beauty and magic, Portland Ballet's recreation of this neo-classical ballet is sure to be a new audience favorite and a powerful close to another fantastic season!
